DETAILED ITINERARY

First is a visit the town of Chinchero, located 30 km from the city of Cusco. This traditional Andean town is known as “the birthplace of the rainbow.” We then drive to Maras, a beautiful little town with a good part of its colonial architectural beauty still intact. After this we head to the Moray ruins with an elevation of 3,450 m. The terraces and complex irrigation system served as a natural greenhouse to grow an extraordinary variety of crops that would typically only grow in the tropical Andes. Finally we will visit the salt mines of Maras, “Trabajos de Sal,” which consist of 3,000 small pools roughly 5 square meters (53.8 ft²) in size used for collecting salt. This salt is packaged and marketed throughout the region. After the tours we head back to Cusco.
