Peru Wind Travels takes you to explore Ausangate Mountain, the fifth highest mountain in Peru and an important deity in the Andean world.
In this trek you get to roam the enigmatic trails of the Peruvian Andes. Find yourself in the pure nature that will surround you and immerse yourself in the Incan ancestral customs and traditions still part of the communities you will visit.

DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 01: Cusco - Ocongate – Tinqui – Upis (Hot Springs)
We set off early from Cusco traveling by private bus to the small town of Tinqui. On the way we pass through the town of Andahuaylillas where we will visit its church, the famous «Sistine Chapel» of the Andes. We will continue to Cattca, an agricultural and livestock community. After a 3-hour drive, we arrive in Tinki, where we meet our wranglers and pack-horses. We begin our hike with a slight climb that crosses through the puna (dry and high area with little vegetation). After a three-hour walk we will have lunch. From here we can see the sacred Ausangate mountain (6,372 m / 20,900 ft.). After lunch we will continue walking for another 1.5 hours to reach the hot springs at Upis. We spend the night here.

Day 02: Upis (Hot Springs) – Pukacocha – Ausangatecocha
After breakfast we continue our trip upwards in the compelling Andean landscape, which is full of wildlife that we will find in the Huallatas (Andean goose) nature reserve. We will see llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and various Andean birds. When we reach the Abra Arapa mountain pass (4,950m / 16,240 ft.), we will have a magnificent view of this mountain chain. We will descend to see more wildlife and three beautiful lakes: the Pucacocha, Hatun Pucacocha, and Comercocha. After lunch, we will climb uphill briefly to cross the Ausangate pass (4,990m / ft.) and then descend to our campsite on the lovely Ausangatecocha.

Day 03: Ausangatecocha – Phinaya – (Jampa) Pachaspata
We will begin our day with a view of a small lake, and from there we will trek to the highest point of our trip – the Palomani pass (5,130m / ft.). From here we will have a spectacular view of the mountain chain Vilcanota. Immediately afterwards, we will descend to a valley where we will eat lunch in the small community of Phinaya. After lunch we follow an uphill trail to our campsite in Pachaspata.

Day 04: Pachaspata – Pacchanta
We start with a glacier hike through the Jampa pass (5,100m /ft), and then continue towards the thermal medicinal baths of Pacchanta to have a warm soak. Having almost completed a full circle around the mountain, we finish the day’s hike at the Pacchanta community where we will camp.

Day 05: Pacchanta – Tinqui – Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu
After breakfast, we leave pacchanta and travel approximately 2 hours to the town of Pisac to see the handmade treasures in the market and then drive up to the archaeological center that overlooks the town to see the ruins. After Pisac, we will eat lunch in Urubamba, and then visit the Archaeological site of Ollantaytambo. Finally, we will board train to Aguas Calientes. On arrival at Aguas Calientes you will check into your hotel and dinner will be at the finest restaurant.

Day 06: Full Day Machu Picchu – Cusco
it is an early start to Macchupicchu to see the sunrise over this magnificent ancient city! We wil take the first bus up to Machupicchu and have a fully guided tour of around 2 hours. After the tour you will have plenty of time to explore the citadel on your own, and maybe even climb Huayna Picchu or Inca Bridge. Afterwards, you can come back down to the town for lunch. Your extra time in the citadel is dependent on your return train time. In the afternoon we take the train back to Ollantaytambo where our driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Cusco.
